Most of the people I work with don’t look anxious.
- They are functioning.
Working.
Managing responsibilities. - From the outside, they appear capable and in control.
- But internally, it feels very different.
They often describe:
- a constant low-level uneasiness
- pressure in the chest
- racing thoughts
- overthinking everything
- feeling on edge all the time
- the constant need to be busy, but never feeling that you getting enough done
- feeling guilty relaxing or struggling to switch off.
They say:
“I feel anxious even when nothing is wrong”
“My mind doesn’t stop”
“I should be able to handle this”
“I feel like I’m constantly bracing for something”
This is high-functioning anxiety.
What it actually feels like
High-functioning anxiety isn’t always obvious.
It often shows up in ways people don’t expect and can cause any of the following:
Mentally
- Overthinking everything
- Catastrophising situations
- Worrying about things before they happen
- Fear of losing control
- Feeling self-conscious
- Loss of confidence
- Feelings of pending doom
Anxiety can be accumulative. When not addressed, the mind becomes more and more sensitive to situations and finds more situations to react to. This can escalate to where people become overwhelmed and in states of panic over even non threatening situations.
Physically
- Pressure in the chest
- Heart racing
- Sweaty palms
- Hot flushes
- Shaking or body tension
- Feeling physically weak or frozen
- Difficulty breathing or needing to “sniff” to breathe
Behaviourally
- Staying busy all the time
- Feeling guilty if you stop
- Avoiding situations
- Nail biting, fidgeting, restlessness
- Over-preparing for events
- Stressing weeks before something happens
- Some clients describe:
- “I feel like I’m constantly carrying something”
Why it’s hard to explain to other people
Because you are still functioning.
You can still:
- go to work
- manage responsibilities
- appear calm
- hold things together
So people don’t always see what’s happening.
And often, you minimise it yourself.
You tell yourself:
“I’m just stressed”
“I’ll deal with it”
“I should be able to handle this”
But inside, the pressure builds.
Why it keeps happening
High-functioning anxiety is not just about thoughts.
It’s a pattern.
Over time, the brain and body learn to stay in a constant state of alert.
Even when there is no real danger.
This becomes what I call the Pressure Loop™:
You feel
pressure
Your body goes into
anxiety
You try to
cope (stay busy, control, avoid, drink, distract)
You get temporary
relief
Then the cycle starts again, but over time this becomes more and more difficult to handle
Where this pattern often starts
Many clients with high-functioning anxiety have learned to:
be responsible early in life. They:
- stay in control
- push themselves
- hide how they feel
- expect a lot from themselves
These traits often lead to success.
But they also create constant internal pressure.
Over time, this becomes anxiety.
What happens when the pattern changes
When we change the pattern underneath the anxiety, things shift naturally.
Clients often describe:
- feeling calmer
- being able to breathe properly
- thinking more clearly
- feeling more in control
- reacting differently to situations
Some say:
“I woke up feeling calm — which is not normal for me”
“I can deal with situations without going into panic”
“I feel lighter”
“My confidence is coming back”
Others notice:
- better relationships
- improved focus
- more emotional control
- feeling more like themselves
How I work
I don’t focus only on managing anxiety.
I focus on changing the pattern that creates it.
Using my Pressure Loop Method™, we:
- identify how the pattern works for you
- change it at the subconscious level
- reduce the pressure driving it
- calm the nervous system
- change your response to triggers
- rebuild confidence and control
This is why the change is often deeper and longer-lasting.
This work is for you if
- You feel anxious but still function
- Your mind doesn’t switch off
- You feel constantly under pressure
- You overthink everything
- You struggle to relax
- You feel stuck in the same patterns
- You want to feel calmer and more in control
The first step is a confidential consultation.
We talk about what is going on and whether this approach is right for you.
